Honouring the Nano Nagle Spirit: Semester 2 Award Recipients

The Semester 2 Nano Nagle Spirit Awards ceremony was held on Friday, 5 December, celebrating students who live out Nano’s values.

On Friday, 5 December, Christ the King School's community gathered to celebrate the Nano Nagle Spirit Awards for Semester 2. These awards recognise students who embody the values of compassion, service, and dedication to others, inspired by Nano Nagle, the foundress of the Presentation Sisters.

At Christ the King School, the Nano Nagle Award has become a cherished tradition. Established to honour students who live out Nano's values in their daily lives, the award highlights such qualities as kindness, generosity and leadership. Unlike academic or sporting achievements, this recognition celebrates character and the way students contribute positively to our school community.

Nano Nagle, often called the 'Lady of the Lantern', devoted her life in 18th-century Ireland to educating poor children and caring for those in need. Carrying her lantern through the streets at night, she became a symbol of hope and courage.

"Her mission continued through the Presentation Sisters, who brought her vision to Australia and established schools like Christ the King School," CTK School's Assistant Principal, Religious Education, Mrs Suzannah Halpin says.

Today, the Nano Nagle Award ensures her legacy remains alive in our community, reminding us that education is about nurturing both minds and hearts.

This semester, we proudly acknowledge the following recipients:

  • Prep: Jack T
  • Year 1: Jack V
  • Year 2: Olive G
  • Year 3: Estelle N
  • Year 4: Matthew K
  • Year 5: Audrey B
  • Year 6: Alexander H
"Each of these students has demonstrated the Nano Nagle spirit through their compassion, perseverance, and care for others," Principal Bernadette Wright says.

"Their example inspires us all to continue carrying Nano's lantern of hope into our daily lives."
