Deciding when your child should enter Prep requires careful consideration about the best educational interest of your child. Your child's development when entering school has a long-lasting impact on progress and success throughout their schooling.
Prep Eligibility
In Queensland, it is compulsory for your child to complete Prep before progression to Year 1. Your child will become eligible for Prep if they are aged five [5] years by 30 June in the year of proposed attendance. Early or delayed entry to Prep may be considered in specific circumstances, and if deemed in the best educational interest of your child. Christ the King School and Brisbane Catholic Education follow the
Queensland Department of Education's position on early entry and delayed entry.

Prep 2027 Enrolment Timeline – What families need to know
We are moving Prep 2027 enrolment timelines earlier. This updated process is designed to make things clearer and easier for families, especially when choosing between multiple schools.
Why has the timeline changed?
The new approach makes the enrolment process more supportive for families by:
- giving parents clearer timeframes earlier in the year
- reducing confusion across neighbouring schools
- ensuring families receive an offer at the same time
- allowing families to make confident decisions without pressure.
What does this mean for our family?
Here's what you can expect under the new process:
- Early offers for Prep 2027 will be issued in Week 9 of Term 1, 2026.
- You'll have time to consider the offer and choose what feels right for your child.
- If places remain or become available through the process subsequent offers will continue into Term 2, 3 and 4
- We will keep you informed throughout the process, so you always know what's next.
