Lighting the Way to Prep at Christ the King School
At Christ the King School, we believe that a confident and joyful start to school begins well before the first day of Prep. Our Little Lanterns Program is designed to support children and families as they prepare for this important milestone, nurturing a sense of belonging, confidence and connection to our school community.
Once a child has received an enrolment offer, they become part of the Little Lanterns Program and are warmly welcomed into the life of Christ the King School through a series of purposeful experiences in the lead-up to starting school.
What is the Little Lanterns Program?
The Little Lanterns Program is a transition-to-school initiative that gently introduces children to life at Christ the King School. Through age-appropriate, engaging experiences, children begin to feel comfortable and excited about their new learning environment while forming early friendships and relationships with staff.
Guided by our belief that every child is known, valued and supported, the program helps children grow in confidence and independence as they take their first steps on their learning journey.
What does the program involve?
Children enrolled in the Little Lanterns Program will be invited to participate in a range of school-based experiences and events throughout the year prior to commencing Prep. These experiences are designed to help children:
- become familiar with the school environment and routines
- develop confidence in a school setting
- build early social connections with peers
- engage in play-based and readiness-focused activities
- begin forming positive relationships with teachers and staff.
Families are also supported through opportunities to connect with the school community and gain insight into the transition to school, helping ensure a smooth and positive start for both children and parents.
Why Little Lanterns?
The Little Lanterns Program is named in honour of Nano Nagle, the founder of the Presentation Sisters, who became known as 'The Lady of the Lantern'. Nano Nagle was renowned for walking the streets of Ireland at night with a lantern, bringing education, care and hope to those most in need.
Her lantern became a lasting symbole of light, courage and compassion, lighting the way for others even in uncertain and challenging times. As a school founded by the Presentation Sisters, Christ the King School proudly draws on this legacy.
The Little Lanterns Program reflects Nano Nagle's spirit by gently lighting the path for our youngest learners as they begin their journey into school life. Through connection, care and belonging, children are supported to step forward with confidence, guided by our shared message:
'I'm ready to light the way at CTK'.
