At Christ the King School, Graceville, music is more than just a subject, it's a ibrant part of school life that brings students together in joyful harmony. Under the expert guidance of Mrs Margaret Lawless, the school's music teacher, the Senior and Junior Choirs have been reformed and revitalised, offering students a wonderful opportunit to explore their musical talents and share their voices with the wider community.
The Senior Choir, open to students from Year 3 to Year 6, meets every Thursday morning at 7:45am. These early sessions are filled with energy and enthusiasm as students warm up their voices, learn new repertoire, and refine thier performance skills.
Meanwhile, the Junior Choir, welcoming students from Prep to Year 2, gathers on Thursdays at 1pm, where the focus is on building confidence, rhythm and a love for singing in a fun and nurturing environment.
Participation in the choirsis not just about rehearsals – it's about performance and connection. Throughout the year, choir members have the chance to perform at a variety of school events, including liturgies, assemblies and special celebrations. These performances allow students to contribute meaningfully to the school community while developing poise and stage presence.
Beyond the school gates, the choirs also represents CTK School at community events, showcasing their talents and spreading joy through music. One of the highlights of the year is the Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival (QCMF), where the Senior Choir joins other schools from across the state in celebration of musical excellence. This prestigious event provides students with a platform to perform in a professional setting, receive feedback from adjudicators, and be inspired by the talents of their peers.
Another exciting opportunity is the Western Districts Choral Festival, a local event that brings together choirs from neighbouring schools. Here, students experience the thrill of performing for a live audience and the camaraderie of singing alongside other young musicians. These public performances not only build musical skills but also foster teamwork, discipline and a sense of pride in representing their school.
To join the choir, students must complete the Choir Registration Form and return it to Mrs Lawless or the School Office. This simple step opens the door to a year filled with music, friendship, and unforgettable experiences.

Instrumental Music: FCIP Strings Program
The Franciscan Colleges Instrumental Program (FCIP) is offering students the chance to learn a string instrument and perform as part of an ensemble, enriching their musical journey and fostering a love of music-making.
The FCIP Strings Program is open to students in Year 2 to Year 6 and provides tuition in violin, viola or cello. This program is offered in addition to the Symphony Music program, giving families an expanded range of musical pathways to choose from.
Through participation in the program, students will develop instrumental technique, musical literacy and ensemble skills while building confidence, discipline and collaboration. Learning an instrument at a young age has been show to support cognitive development and creativity, and ensemble participation encourages teamwork and a strong sense of belonging.
The structure of the program is designed to balance learning and enjoyment. For eight weeks each term, students will take part in small group lessons of two to three students, each lasting 30 minutes and held during school hours. In addition, students will rehearse together in a 1-hour ensemble session before school on Tuesdays from 7:30am to 8:15am, allowing them to apply their skills in a collaborative and engaging environment.
Students interested in learning the violin, viola or cello and being part of a string ensemble are encouraged to register. Completed forms can be returned to the School Office in person or via email.
Further information about the FCIP Strings Program can be obtained by calling the School Office on 07 3379 7872.
We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to our students and look forward to seeing them grow as young musicians through the program.

Whether the student is a complete beginner or already has some experience, the program is designed to cater to individual learning needs. One-on-one lessons are held during school hours, making it convenient for families and ensuring students can pursue their musical interests without disrupting their academic schedule.
Learning and instrument offers more than just technical skill – it builds confidence, discipline and creativity. Students who participate in the Instrumental Music program often find joy in expressing themselves through music and gain a sense of achievement as they progress.
