Remembering our ANZACs

Friday, 25 April saw 20 Christ the King School students and their families take part in the ANZAC Day commemoration at Graceville Memorial Park.

Our students gathered at 7am at the Graceville Train Station for the march along Oxley Road to the park. More than 400 people participated in this traditional ANZAC Day service, which included the opportunity for CTK School students to lay a wreath at the Remembrance Shrine.

Thank you to the wonderful contingent of students and parents who braved the rainy conditions to ensure a continued presence for CTK School for ANZAC Day. The respect and reverance shown by our students was a real credit to the children and their families.

Garden life at CTK School

I'd like to say a massive thank you to Mrs Kim Lyons, Mrs Phoebe Berg and Mrs Calista Simmons and their family members who put some well-needed energy into our gardens at the end of Week 1. The garden beds behind our Library and next to our undercover area are now looking much better, with beautiful plants and flowers for school students to admire and maintain.

Process for when you arrive late to school

Arriving on time for school is a big contributor to children being engaged in their learning. It is important that all children arrive in time to commence the school day by 8:30am. When children arrive after this time, they miss the opportunity to be well-prepared for the day's learning and unfortunately impact upon the learning of other children.

Teachers understand that on occasions there may be a hold up in getting to school, but this should really be an exception.

If a student arrives at school after 8:30am they MUST go to the office and sign in accompanied by a parent/caregiver. The office staff will then give the student a late slip to hand to their class teacher, which lets teachers know they have been through the office.

'Lunch left at home' stories

I would like to bring to the attention of parents and guardians that quite often in this return to term, we have children coming to the office telling staff that they don't have any lunch. On occasions this may be because children are eating all of their lunch items at morning tea. Sometimes a lunch box has been left behind. But there are definitely times when children don't really like what they have in their lunch box from home, and they are looking to see if they can get something different from the Tuckshop of the office.

At present this is happening most commonly with students from Years 1-3.

Our office staff are managing this little issue well, but could I please ask parents of younger students to have a discussion with their children about what will be in their lunch boxes (as well as children's preferences) and expectations for eating.

Thank you for your help with this.

A reminder about registering and training for our valued volunteers

Volunteers have an important role in the CTK School community and are greatly valued. In Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) schools, all students have the right to expect that the school will always act to protect them from any kind of harm.

Online training has been created by BCE, which is compulsory for all volunteers. As part of this process all volunteers in our school are required to undertake training that involves:

Once you have completed the training, you must download, print and complete the 'Volunteer and Ohter Personnel Registration Form' and return this to the school office as soon as possible.

Have a wonderful fortnight,

Damien
